About the Barony

The Freehold of Arandor is a Medieval recreationists group focused on the art, culture, music, and martial practices of Europe from the 10th century to the to the end of the 14th century.  To be clear we are recreationists not re-creationists, what this means is, it really doesn’t matter if the shoes you are wearing with your 13th century English persona are really of 14th century German fashion.  Ultimately we are here to have a good time and experience an adventure, a time, and a place that is long since departed our time.

  • Art and Culture-
The Freehold encourages exploration and reproduction of period art and culture in several ways.  We have many skilled craftsmen who make furniture and tents for our camping and armor smiths who craft and forge the armor of our fighters.  At our encampments and events you will find talented cooks preparing food and drink for our citizens, talented singers and upcoming musicians telling tales of valiant knights, drunken sailors, and bawdy wenches.  If you have a desire to learn or share an art or talent, the Freehold has a home for you.
  • Martial Practices-
The Freeholds origins come from a deep study of period fencing manuals, primarily Fiore’s Flower of Battle.  The Freehold encourages study of period martial text to begin to rebuild the martial traditions of Europe that have been lost to us, in doing so warriors of the Freehold can often be found sparring and training with blunted steel weapons working through plays of the ancient masters.  The Freehold also fields a standing army to defend itself, fighting in the Behordium tradition of the EMP, using rattan weapons and heavy armor to simulate large medieval melee combat.
